Communitarian Award

POLICY ON COMMUNITARIAN AWARD

Each year the council honors an individual for exemplary service to the community. The honoree is recognized with his or her name engraved on a plaque that hangs in the Community Center.

Procedures

Only Council members may nominate a person deemed worthy of us honor by forwarding

  • A name is presented to the Council Award Committee with a short biography listing the nominee’s service record as it pertains to the criteria. The Committee checks the nominee’s record against the criteria. Once a nominee’s name is forwarded, it is assumed that he or she is agreeable to the nomination. Voting takes place at the May meeting before the Annual Meeting in June. There are no absentee or proxy ballots.

Criteria

The nominee does not have to be a member of the Council, but must be a member of the Bayview Community.

  • The nominee’s service contributions should extend over time, meaning that the service is not for a short duration.
  • The nominee’s service record should be broad based, meaning that it would not be in a single area unless it is extraordinary and exceptional.
  • The nominee’s service record should be recognizable and noted within the community.
